Ayesa Engineering Designs the New Los Cercadillos Sports Centre in Alcalá de Guadaíra, Spain
The Alcalá de Guadaíra City Council is backing the construction of a new sports centre: Los Cercadillos. The project is designed by teams at Ayesa Engineering.
Conceived as a space for the entire community, the new sports centre aspires to become one of the most iconic and modern public facilities in the municipality, bringing together sport, culture, and sustainability in an environment designed for the wellbeing of its citizens.
The complex will be built on a 6.4-hectare plot located in the southeast of the city, alongside the banks of the Guadaíra river.
The project responds to the growing demand for sports and community spaces, combining contemporary facilities, green areas, and open meeting spaces accessible to all citizens.
The project is committed to universal accessibility, incorporating adapted pathways, an elevator, and reserved spaces for people with reduced mobility.
Sustainability is also a central pillar of the design, with the use of low environmental impact materials, a wooden canopy, a green roof, and low water consumption landscaping solutions, measures that contribute to the efficiency and long-term durability of the project.
Its main features include:
A large outdoor multi-sport court spanning more than 13,800 m²
A regulation eight-lane, 400-meter athletics track, with jumping and throwing areas
Several football pitches, allowing for the compatibility of different disciplines and intensive use of the facilities
The main building, with 1,116 m² spread across two levels, will house a gym, six accessible changing rooms, spaces for sports clubs, a medical consultation room, offices, and a covered grandstand with 531 seats.
Construction will begin this month of March and has an estimated execution period of 11 months.
The project is the result of work by the Buildings and Cities Division of Ayesa Engineering, with Rosa García Muelas as director, Daniel Corredor as lead designer, Toñi Sánchez as installations coordinator, and Daniel Herrera, Miguel Pontijas, and Eugenio Sáez providing support in technical supervision.
Rosa García Muelas, Project Director, highlights:
“The Los Cercadillos Sports Centre is a very meaningful project because it brings together sport, sustainability, and public space for the community. Our goal has been to create a facility that not only responds to the current needs of Alcalá de Guadaíra, but also contributes to improving the quality of life of its citizens and strengthening the bond between people and their surroundings.”
Daniel Corredor, Lead Designer, adds:
“From a design perspective, we wanted to conceive an open, functional, and flexible space — one capable of adapting to different sports disciplines and to the daily life of the community. The integration with the natural environment and the creation of accessible, welcoming spaces have been key to designing a place meant to be lived in and enjoyed for many years to come.”
